Is it Craft or is it Art?

I have always felt with my writing that art was more import than craft. I think that I came to that opinion because, craft seems to confining. The rules seem to sterilize the writing. It takes away the natural way people communicate, taking away the feeling of a sentence. It might read better but it can take away a reader’s own interpretation. I want my readers to be involved using experiences from their own life to give the writing a personal feel. I have and I bet you have looked at a painting that was technically perfect but didn’t move you. On the other hand, you might stand in front of a painting that technically was all wrong, but you were moved. The artiest conveyed a sense of himself.

“If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it. Or, if proper usage gets in the way, it may have to go. I can’t allow what we learned in English composition to disrupt the sound and rhythm of the narrative.”
– Elmore Leonard
